  2. Fitness Month Starts Today!

    August 30, 2010 by randee

Today starts off Fitness month! Instead of going to KCC, we will be meeting at Paki Park (instead of Triangle Park).

To get to Paki Park from KCC Chapel, head towards Waikiki on Diamond Head Road and keep going straight. Diamond Head Road will turn into Monsarrat Avenue. Turn left by the Honolulu Zoo and the park should be on the left hand side. If you have any questions, feel free to call Sensei at 277-7219.

  3. September is Fitness Month

    August 19, 2010 by randee

For the month of September, all KCC classes will be relocated to Fort Ruger Park (aka Triangle Park) for Fitness Month. We will be doing fitness exercises, so wear loose and comfortable clothing (no gis) and tennis shoes.

Fort Ruger Park is located just down the road from KCC Chapel. From KCC Chapel, head down Diamond head Road towards Kahala Mall, past the American Red Cross. It will be on your right hand side.

The next belt test will be on Friday, August 13, 2010 at 4:45 pm at KCC.

If you are unsure if you are eligible to test, please check with a Sensei or Sempai.

Be sure that you know your katas (your kata for your level and the previous katas), your kumite (3-step, 1-step, jyu) and for upper belts, your bo katas.

Please make sure that your paper work is in order BEFORE the belt test. You can find the necessary paperwork under the “Belts” tab.

  5. 4th of July Weekend Events

    June 29, 2010 by randee

On Friday, July 2, 2010, the dojo is having a get-together at Ice Palace to celebrate Adam Hagadone getting his junior black belt. The cost is $8.90 per person (chaperones who are not skating will be admitted at no charge). We will be having the first class at KCC, but will be canceling the black/brown belt class at 5:45. We will be meeting at Ice Palace around 6:15 pm and will be skating from 6:30 – 8:30 pm. Each family is responsible for transportation and supervision (so, it’s encouraged for families to come, or make sure that there’s someone to look after the kids).

On Saturday, July 3, 2010, there will be a karate demonstration that MKD will be taking part of, along with about 10 other dojos, at the Hawaii Kotohira Jinsha/Hawaii Daizaifu Tenmangu. The temple is located at 1239 Olomea Street in Kalihi next to the H1 freeway (it’s visible on the left side of H1 – Ewa bound – next to the Houghtailing Exit) next to Honolulu Ford. The demonstration will take place from 2:00 – 4:00 pm. This is a FREE demonstration.

On Sunday, July 4, 2010 and Monday, July 5, 2010, there will be no dojo classes in observance of Independence Day!

  6. Congratulations Adam!

    by randee

A few weeks ago, Adam Sempai had tested for and received his junior black belt.

Adam, who’s 12-years old, had started training at the age of 6. He is Minakami Karate Dojo – Hawaii’s 1st junior black belt. A junior black belt just means that he is a black belt who is under the age of 18.

Congratulations on a job well done!
