5 Steps to Joining the Minakami Dojo

I) Beginner’s Series

You will need to enroll in one of our $30 three-week Beginner Series, offered each month. This is a minimal commitment which allows you to get a taste of karate. You will be introduced to the basic techniques and components of Minakami Karate, including basic techniques (kihon), forms (kata) and sparring (kumite).

II) Membership and Uniform

It is time for you to become a member of the Minakami Karate Dojo. Each student must submit an annual $46 membership fee. New students will receive a karate uniform and a school patch which will make you feel part of our dojo.

III) Safety Equipment

We pad our head, feet, shins and hands and require a mouth piece for fighting. Safety equipment is mandatory for all students within 30 days of enrollment. Each student must purchase their own equipment. Please label gear with your name and bring it with you to each lesson.

IV) School Patch

The school patch instills a sense of pride and provides our students with uniformity. It is a symbol of your school, instructors, and your dedication to the martial art of karate. The Minakami Dojo patch costs $10.

V) Monthly Dues

We offer a number of venues, training times and payment schedules as listed in the classes page.

The benefits of karate

benefitsKarate promotes balanced development of physical fitness and character.

Self-Confidence

Karate helps prepare us for life. The students in our karate classes know that more is expected of them and with encouragement and support from their instructors, they rise to the occasion.

Etiquette

Students are taught from the outset that karate is primarily a defensive and not an offensive martial art. They learn to be polite and respect their fellow students, instructors and elders. They become aware that having good manners requires consideration of others.

Discipline

Dojo discipline is imposed at first and, in time, students develop self-discipline. Their concentration is enhanced as they focus their mind on the job at hand. Many students notice a marked improvement in their powers of concentration.
