  • Mahalo!

    by randee

On Saturday, October 10, 2009 many MKD members were up bright and early to help clean up Magic Island. For an hour (8:30 – 9:30 am) MKD students and parents went around Magic Island and picked up trash that ranged from pieces of glass, soda cans, bottle caps and other miscellaneous trash.

Everyone worked very hard and represented MKD to the best of their abilities.

After the clean-up, we had a picnic where there was plenty of ono food for everyone. Members who don’t normally get a chance to interact in dojo got meet and enjoy the beach with one another.

Mahalo to Mark Freytag who was kind enough to allow members to try their hands at paddle-boarding. And Mahalo to Alex Bergo and Viil Lid, who brought their volleyball net for members to use.

A special thanks to Kiyo Matsuoka and Senpai Naomi Wong, who had coordinated the event and to Nicole Cardinale, who organized all the games and provided all the prizes.

DON’T FORGET!!! The Magic Island Clean-up is THIS SATURDAY!

We’re meeting at 8:00 am at the ocean-side end of the Magic Island parking lot.

We will be cleaning the surrounding area for an hour and then have a picnic/potluck at Magic Island.

PARENTS: Get the number of a Sensei or Senpai (or even another parent) so you can get in contact with someone in case you are not sure where to meet.

  • All Hawaii Tournament

    by randee

IKF will host its 50th Annual All Hawaii Karate Tournament on Saturday, November 28, 2009. It’s an all-day tournament that is held at Manoa Gym.

For those of you who would like to compete (or just try to see what it’s like), Oshita Senpai has been teaching classes geared towards tournament competitions on Wednesday nights at the 6:00 UH class (for Kumite) and on Friday nights at the 5:45 KCC Class (for kata/kobudo).

It’s a great opportunity to experience the competitiveness of a tournament and a good gauge as to your progress among people your rank and age statewide.

  • Belt Test Coming Up

    by randee

The next belt test is on Wednesday, October 14, 2009 at 6:00 pm in UHM Studio 4 (the mat room).

If you are planning to test, please fill out the belt test application and make sure you have your red stripe (if you’re a yellow belt or higher) as soon as possible.

If you don’t know if you’re eligible to test, look at your attendance card the next time you’re in class and can count the number of classes you have since you received your red stripe (orange belts – since your last belt test).

If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to ask a Sensei or Senpai.
